~THE CANTERBURY TALES Final~
The last story is “The Nun’s Priest Tale”.
There is a couple of a cock called
Chaunticleer and a hen called Pertelote. They are good and wise and
Chaunticleer believes that any dreams mean something. One day, he had a bad
dream, so he told his wife about it. Moreover, he taught her some examples that
bad dreams happened actually.
When he is singing beautifully, he runs into
a fox. The fox praises the cock’s
singing to catch and eat it. Unfortunately, the cock is caught with the fox’s
mouth. But then, he proposals the fox, “To say to stupid people and cock’s
family that they should go home and do not make noise”. And the fox agreed and
opened his mouth….
It’s an interesting ending! The cock is
really wise bird! The story has an important message that we should not believe
everything other people say to us.
